Like Neighbors Announces 2nd Annual 5,000 Meals Program in Honor of National Military Appreciation Month
In its second year, the program aims to donate 5,000 chef-prepared meals to military families in the Washington, DC area.
(WASHINGTON, DC) May 1, 2019 -- Like Neighbors, an online platform created to help people support one another in meaningful, tangible ways, has announced its 2nd Annual 5,000 Meals Program during National Military Appreciation Month, which runs through May 31, 2019. The program offers an easy and affordable way for participants nationwide to show support and appreciation for military families by donating fresh, chef-prepared meals. 100% of donations provide meals to military families.
Like Neighbors is again supporting families at Washington, DC-area Fisher House comfort homes, where veterans' families stay free of charge while a loved one receives medical treatment at a military or VA hospital, as well as families served by the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). TAPS has provided compassionate care and programming to more than 85,000 people grieving the loss of a military loved one.
"Fisher House is a home away from home for military families facing very challenging times," said DC VAMC Fisher House Manager Stacey Childs. "While lodging is covered during their loved one's treatment, meals aren't provided. Last year’s donations from 5,000 Meals provided weekly dinners to our residents all summer long, greatly relieving their financial and emotional burden during their stay with us."
“Gifting a delicious, prepared meal to a military family is a wonderful, personal way to recognize their sacrifices and ongoing challenges,” said Judy O’Connor, founder & CEO of Like Neighbors. Meal donations, starting at just $15, can be made by visiting the Like Neighbors platform.
To help reach its 5,000 meal goal, Like Neighbors is partnering with organizations including EveryMind, KGS Strategic Consulting and NTVI.
